In May 2000, the Second People Hospital of Rongcheng admitted a patient with Severe Extensive Exfoliative Dermatitis, 96% TBSA. After being treated with systemic therapy and topical wound treatment with MEBT/MEBO, the patient recovered from the disease, and checked out after 32 days stay in hospital.

The patient, Mr.Zou,male,60 years old, who came from Dayudao Village, Stone Island Town, Rongcheng City, Shangdong Province of China. He had been suffering an widespread itching scalelike dermatosis on his body and four limbs for many years, Mr. Zou had been treated in many hospitals all over China, but the therapeutic effect was not satisfactory.

About 10 days before he entered the hospital, Mr. Zou took some traditional medicine prescribed by the dermatosis unit of a local clinic. Four days later, he began to feel bad from head to foot and the body temperature was up to 40 degree C, and appeared the following symptom: awfully thirsty, dysphoria, frequently excreted urine with macroscopic blood, exacerbatting itch, skin edema, erythemas and blisters, exfoliating and putrefying, most of the patient’s skin being damaged. His blood pressure was 90/53mmHg, leucocyte number was 28.6╳109 myriads/L, urine erythrocyte reached a degree of +++.

Diagnosis: 1.Systemic Severe Extensive Exfoliative Dermatitis (Degree: Ⅱ-Ⅲ, 96% TBSA); 2. Hypovolemic Shock; 3. Severe Topical Infection.

The surgeons treated Mr. Zou with systemic support therapy: providing oxygen, conducting urine, supplying liquid, anti- inflammation, hemostasia and protecting organs function of the patient. They applied MEBO(Moist Exposed Burn Ointment) on the local wound, and replaced it every 4-6 hours, strictly practiced the MEBT (Moist Exposed Burn Therapy), eliminated necrotic tissues timely so as to keep the wound moist and drain smoothly. After 28 days of treatment with MEBT/MEBO, the patient’s wound almost healed, and 4 days later, the patient recovered completely and left the hospital.

Although Severe Exfoliative Dermatitis can be treated with the almost same local therapy as dermatitis, it cannot play an important role in treating the patients with a large area of skin damage. So it was proved that MEBT is an effective therapy for Severe Exfoliative Dermatitis, and resolved a difficult clinical problem again.
